Ohio State football: Justin Fields could be a New York Jet
The projected 2021 NFL Draft order is shaping up to give the New York Jets the 1st overall pick followed by the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Cincinnati Bengals. Trevor Lawrence and Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields will both be the top 2 overall picks. The question is: Will the Jets draft Lawrence or Fields? Justin Fields will be a New York Jet.
With 1 winning season since 2010, the New York Jets are the worst team in the NFL. Statistically speaking, the Jets’ offense is the worst in the NFL, averaging only 269.8 yards per game with only 183 total points scored. The only bright spot on their offense is their #1 overall draft pick that they will have in the 2021 NFL Draft.
This Jets offense needs a total makeover. From the system to the play calling to the entire personnel, this Jets offense needs to press the reset button. With no offensive weapons at the receiver position and a 37-year-old running back in Frank Gore, the Jets will draft Buckeyes quarterback Justin Fields and they will look to add the right pieces around him.
Now, the Jets will draft Justin Fields as the #1 overall pick because of Trevor Lawrence pulling an ‘Eli Manning in the 2004 NFL draft’. Since Trevor Lawrence won the national championship as a true freshman, his draft stock has skyrocketed.
Many experts believe he is a ‘once in a lifetime quarterback talent’. This may be the case but for Trevor Lawrence, the thought of his career as a Jet is going to steer him away from this Jets disastrous franchise at all costs.
In the 2004 NFL draft, the San Diego Chargers had the first overall pick and the franchise was set on drafting the top overall prospect, Ole Miss QB Eli Manning. After Eli Manning communicated that he would never play for the Chargers, the Chargers negotiated a trade with the New York Giants to send Manning to New York.
After Trevor Lawrence follows in the footsteps of Eli Manning, the Jets will avoid Lawrence altogether and select Justin Fields to be the face of their franchise.
Justin Fields would shine in New York. His ‘Deshaun Watson’ playing style would give the Jets hope as long as the Jets put the right pieces around him. The current Ohio State football might be able to turn that franchise around.
