Ohio State Football holds the key to college football’s future of having credibility with how the college football playoff committee handles them.

If the Buckeyes lose a game at all everything beyond this sentence really doesn’t matter anymore. However, if they remain undefeated there is ZERO reason why they shouldn’t be in the College Football Playoff.

Yes, conference titles matter. Yes, strength of schedule matters. Yes, wins and losses matter. If Ohio State finishes the season without a loss from where they started in the rankings there is NO reason a 1-loss team of any kind should get in the playoffs ahead of them.

We are in unprecedented times that require unprecedented thinking, common sense, and intelligence. That’s hard to come by from the top in college athletics these days. I would rather not have a season than have an incomplete one that refuses to see the elites give us a real show to the end.

I’d feel the exact same way if Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, or any other team for that matter were in the same boat. A title means nothing if you didn’t have to face all the real ones. The credibility of the sport of college football is already in question these days, but this would really put it in mortal danger.

Imagine having a team you put in there and then dropping them out. Not because they lost a game. Not because another equally talented undefeated team jumped them, but because they simply couldn’t play because of a pandemic? Say it out loud…stupid right?

So we will see how all of this plays out, but Ohio State could very well hold the key to the overall credibility of the sport and this season altogether. Currently, they are ranked fourth in the College Football Playoff rankings. Stay tuned.
