Ohio State Football: The Game is canceled, the season is not

The Ohio State football team’s playoff chances took a blow today as Michigan canceled the rivalry game. The Buckeyes will still be able to play this weekend.

As the Ohio State football team and head coach Ryan Day await what’s next, we know one thing: ‘The Game’ will not be played in 2020. This will be the first time since 1917 that the Ohio State-Michigan game will not be played.

The Buckeyes should still count on playing this weekend as early reports say that a contest with Maryland or a rematch with Nebraska are possibilities.

There were also reports of a potential match-up with Texas A&M but Fox’s Joel Klatt says otherwise, via his Twitter account:

"“Also, there is no scenario where I see the B1G coming off their Conference Only mandate…A&M-OSU is not happening.”"

A very disappointing day for Ohio State fans no doubt, but all is not lost. The Buckeyes remain favorites to secure a CFP bid. Plus another game at some point between now and the Big Ten Championship remains a strong possibility.

Let’s just take a step back and reflect on the fact that we are lucky to even have a Big Ten season after the initial cancelation of the season. And as the Buckeyes prepare to still play somebody this weekend they still should be in line to play in the Big Ten Championship game.

For now, the only thing the Ohio State football team can do is practice and prepare, work on their own craft to get better and not worry about what opponent is next for them. If they take care of the thing that they can control, they are just too talented and hopefully motivated to lose.

Another week that the Buckeyes just have to get through, on its way to the College Football Playoffs.
