Several Ohio State football players have been honored as semifinalists for several big-time awards.

Ohio State football has dominated the Big Ten this season. They are clearly the best team. Being the best team means that their players are some of the best in America at their positions. Several were honored today as semifinalists for big-time college football awards.

Justin Fields is one of those players. The quarterback was named as a semifinalist for the Davey O’Brien Trophy, which is given to the best quarterback in the country. Fields has been the best player on the field in every game he has played in this season.

That’s not the only award that Fields is in the running for. He is also a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award, which is given to the best offensive player in the country. His dual-threat performance against Michigan State certainly gives him a good case to win that one.

Fields isn’t the only one getting recognized. Shaun Wade was announced as a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, which is given to the best defensive back in the country. Wade has had an up and down senior season but had a pick-six against IU and another interception last week against Michigan State.

Pete Werner was named as a Butkus Award semifinalist last week. Werner has really improved his game this season and might be in a position to be a first-round pick in next year’s NFL Draft if he keeps playing the way he has. He’s a part of the Buckeyes’ most experienced unit on defense.

It would be surprising if Wyatt Davis wasn’t a semifinalist for the Outland Trophy once that information comes out at 8 pm tonight. Either way, it’s great to see so many Ohio State players getting recognized for their stellar play.
