Ohio State Football: Fields’ proves his greatness against MSU
The shorthanded Ohio State football team led by quarterback Justin Fields proves to be too much for Mel Tucker and Michigan State.
The Ohio State football team took care of business as Justin Fields keeps getting better. Yes, there are questions on whether or not he holds onto the ball too long and he tries too hard to make something out of nothing. But on Saturday when Ohio State needed him most, he showed up in a big way.
Great leadership, big throws, and key runs were all apart of Field’s game on Saturday afternoon. Minus his two primary coaches, head coach Ryan Day and quarterback coach Corey Dennis, Fields eased their minds as they watched from home. Fields helped navigate Ohio State to a 28-0 halftime lead.
As reported about an hour before kickoff, the Buckeyes were down three starting offensive lineman including its All-Big Ten center in Josh Myers. Field’s best feat in this game may just be catching all the wild shot-gun snaps from today’s starting center Harry Miller.
Playing a less talented Michigan State team certainly helped matters but Just Fields deserves a ton of credit for keeping this make-ship offensive line organized and for having this offense humming all afternoon long.
Being the coach on the field, Fields made sure Ryan Day’s presence was felt. Credit also to offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson for stepping in and calling a solid game. It was the first time that he called plays since his days as Indiana’s head coach back in 2016. For not calling a game in five years, Wilson did a heck of a job.
But this day belonged to Justin Fields. And now hopefully we see two healthy teams and coaching staff for next week’s rivalry game between Ohio State and Michigan.
