Ohio State basketball vs. Morehead State: Preview
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State basketball team plays their third game of the season at 5 pm today. They are hoping to play better than they did in their last game against UMass Lowell.
The Ohio State basketball team gets back at it today after playing poorly on Sunday against UMass Lowell. That game was close up until the final couple of minutes, with the Buckeyes winning by 10 points. It was that close because of a poor offensive effort from Ohio State.
Now they face a Morehead State team that is 1-2 so far this season. It’s a team that has yet to score more than 69 points this season in any game. If Ohio State shoots as poorly as they did against UMass Lowell, they might actually be okay.
The key for the Buckeyes is to hit their layups. They missed a number of layups on Sunday. Most of those layups came on plays where defenders gave them contact. They weren’t fouls, so the Buckeyes need to learn to play through contact and make easy shots at the rim.
Justice Sueing will once again likely be the focal point on the offensive side of the ball. He is easily the most offensively talented player on this Buckeyes team. He played pretty well on the defensive side of the ball on Sunday as well. The Bucks need other players to step up with him though.
Duane Washington can’t play as poorly as he did last game. While he did score a team-high 21 points, he did so on only 7-17 shooting, including a paltry 3-11 from three. He isn’t afraid to keep shooting, which is a good quality to have. But he has to hit them at a higher clip.
Game Prediction: Ohio State 85 Morehead State 65
Morehead State just isn’t a very good offensive team. They don’t have the firepower to keep up with a team that can score the ball well. Even in an offensive struggle, the Buckeyes still put up 74 points last game. This is one that shouldn’t really be close at any point.
If this game is close once again, then we have some serious things to worry about with this squad.
