Ohio State is in a dangerous position of not playing enough games to qualify for the Big Ten Championship, which could hurt the chances of seeing the Buckeyes in the playoffs.

Ohio State saw their second game of the season canceled due to COVID this past weekend. In order to qualify for the Big Ten Championship, the rules state that the Buckeyes would need to play both of their final two games. Assuming they earn victories in both games they would then be able to play for another Title.

If Ohio State is able to win the Big Ten and remain undefeated there is little doubt that the Buckeyes would be in the College Football Playoffs. The issue now comes in to play with questions about if Ohio State will be able to play another game.

Examining a worst-case scenario where Ohio State has to sit for the next three weeks and enters the selection deadline with only 4 games played shows that it is possible, but the Buckeyes need help.

For starters, Alabama would need to go undefeated which would knock Florida from contention with two losses.

Notre Dame would need to do the same to eliminate Clemson.

If Oregon can rebound and win the Pac-12 that would all but eliminate the entire conference, and the Big 12 is already looking doubtful to make it.

That would put Alabama and Notre Dame in some order at the top. Texas A&M and Cincinnati would be the two most likely to challenge Ohio State in this scenario. Would the committee decide that Ohio State is better after only playing four games all season?

One of the biggest things the Buckeyes have going for them is that they clearly have one of the best offenses in the country. The ability to keep pace with any team is something going in Ohio State’s favor.

Other than that it could be a toss-up between those three schools fighting for the last two spots. Do you think the Buckeyes get in if they do not play another game?
