Ohio State COVID cases: What we know now
By Ryan Stano
Ohio State may have to play Illinois without some key guys. Here’s what we know as far as who may or may not have tested positive for Covid-19.
Ohio State is dealing with cases of Covid-19 on their own team for the first time this season. They have only had to deal with this once before when the Maryland game was canceled because of multiple positive tests within the Maryland program.
The Buckeyes have multiple tests, but the game against Illinois will still be played tomorrow. We do know based on things Ohio State posted to social media that Justin Fields and Chris Olave appear to be COVID-free. Fields is the one person the Buckeyes couldn’t afford to lose to the virus.
There are some rumors that some of the positive tests are in the wide receiver room. We were supposed to find out exactly who had it today, but the availability report will no longer be available until tomorrow morning two hours before kickoff.
We do know that no major players appear to have the virus. From what we are hearing, it’s a couple of backups and one or two starters. I cannot confirm this, but this is the rumor that I have heard going around.
Even though the availability report will come out tomorrow, it won’t explicitly say who has the virus. We can figure that out though based on past injuries. If someone is on that report that hadn’t been hurt, we can assume that they are positive for COVID.
The best news is that the game will still be played. So the Buckeyes still have a chance to meet that six-game threshold to qualify for the Big Ten Championship game. That would be the next game that anyone who tests positive would be able to play in too.
As soon as that report comes out, we will let you know who is on it.
