The #1 player in the class of 2022, Quinn Ewers, has committed to Ohio State and gives the Buckeyes yet another top-ranked passer.

Quinn Ewers, 6’3″ 205lb QB from Carroll High School in Southlake, Texas, has committed to Coach Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes Thursday night after de-committing from Texas at the end of October.

The 5-star recruit threw for 4,003 yards, 45 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions as a sophomore last season. After receiving offers from every powerhouse program in the nation, Ewers joins the  Buckeyes to give Ryan Day and his staff the top-ranked recruiting class in the nation.

With the commitment of Ewers, this gives the Buckeyes the #1 overall recruit in three recruiting classes in a row, depending on the ranking service you use. Jack Sawyer was one from the 2021 class and current WR Julian Fleming was one from the 2020 class.

QB Coach Corey Dennis will have a loaded QB room for years to come. Kyle McCord, a 2021 commitment and the #4 ranked packer passer, along with current 2020 QB recruits C.J. Stroud and Jack Miller, will all be competing to be the QB for the Buckeyes after the departure of Heisman hopeful Justin Fields.

What this does for the future of the quarterback position in Columbus is unclear. There will be a new starter next season for sure. The question is whether or not Ewers can play well enough as a true freshman to usurp whoever is awarded the starting job.

Next. Big Ten should learn from the Pac-12. dark

There is no question that Ryan Day has put the Buckeyes on the trajectory to become QB U. In almost two years since becoming the Buckeyes head coach, Day has groomed Justin Fields to be a future top 3 NFL draft pick as one of the most dynamic and efficient college quarterbacks in the country.
