We profile the last member of the 2021 recruiting class for the Ohio State basketball program, who is someone who is more of a long-term project.

Ohio State basketball starts in less than a week. We will be having a season preview of the team early next week, but now we look even further ahead to 2021. We have one more 2021 signee to profile, and that is power forward Kalen Etzler from Convoy, Ohio.

Etzler is rated as a four-star kid out of Crestview High School. He stands at 6’8 and 195 pounds and is rated as the second-best prospect in the state of Ohio. Etzler is someone who will be looked at as more of a long-term project than someone who can immediately contribute,

Etzler looks to be pretty athletic on film. He is someone that can get to the rim with ease and handle the ball pretty well for someone his size. He is surprisingly smooth with the ball in his hands. It also looks like he has a relatively smooth jump shot.

Chris Holtmann said that Etzler is someone that might come along a little bit slowly, which is a bit surprising to me. Maybe they just want to bulk him up a bit. 195 is pretty skinny for someone who is 6’8. His defense doesn’t look too bad but definitely can be improved as well.

Based on the limited film available on him, Etzler looks like a player that could develop into something pretty solid. He has all the tools already, he just needs to be coached up at a college level. Passing is the next offensive skill he needs to gain as well.

It will be exciting to see him in a Buckeye uniform next season. The same can be said for all of the 2021 signees as well.
