Signing day for the Ohio State basketball team was a few days ago. We now will profile each of the three signees. First up is Meechie Johnson, who will actually play in 2020.

Ohio State basketball is just around the corner. In about three weeks, the Buckeyes will start their march towards the NCAA tournament. They were robbed of a chance to show everyone how good they were last year because of the pandemic. Now they have almost an entirely new team.

Meechie Johnson will actually get to help them in that fight this year. He was part of the signing day class of 2021 a few days ago but has reclassified so he can actually play this season. It’s an unusual move this late in the year, but a move that should help Ohio State immediately.

Johnson is a four-star recruit from Cleveland that should be able to help off the bench this season. He is a point guard that can handle the ball well, and that is in short supply on this team. The Buckeyes need more ball handlers on this team.

Johnson has good skills with the ball in his hands. He does a good job of breaking down a defense. He is someone who can get into the middle of the defense and kick it out to an open shooter. At just 5’11 and 160 pounds, he isn’t the biggest point guard in the world.

Even in that slender frame, he does a decent job of finishing at the rim. Part of that is because he is very quick and is able to get around taller defenders easily. His shooting is okay for now but something that can be improved. He’s a solid bench guy right now.

Expect Johnson to get a decent amount of playing time off the bench this year. He may only play 10 minutes a game early, but he can still contribute to this team.
