Ohio State basketball lands another commitment on signing day, this one for the class of 2022.

The Ohio State basketball team has had a big day today. It’s signing day for basketball, and the Buckeyes were able to officially announce three new players. We will profile each of them over the coming days, but the Buckeyes also were able to land a four-star shooting guard for the class of 2022.

Roddy Gayle Jr. is the new addition to the Buckeyes’ 2022 class. The four-star recruit is a 6’4 195-pound shooting guard from Youngstown, New York. He had quite an offer sheet, gaining offers from Georgetown, Syracuse, UConn, Marquette, and others.

Gayle is ranked as the 7th best shooting guard in the country. He still has a few years of high school basketball to improve his ranking too. He is already the second shooting guard for the class of 2022 to commit to Ohio State, joining Bowen Hardman from Cincinnati.

Gayle is the number one player in the state of New York for the class of 2022. He has good size for a shooting guard and seems to have long arms. That should certainly help on the defensive side of the ball. Defense is something that Chris Holtmann emphasizes.

Because he is in the class of 2022, film is in short supply. Based on what I could find, he is still very raw but has some good talent. His shot release is a little unorthodox, but it goes in consistently. It’s smooth and still relatively quick. He should be a reliable outside shooter.

Outside shooting is something that the Buckeyes will be lacking this season. Losing Andre and Kaleb Wesson will hurt their ability to stretch the floor. But adding someone like Gayle in just a couple of years will be a great help.

It’s good to see Holtmann doing well on the recruiting trail even a couple of years out.
