Ohio State Football: Should CFP get bumped up and expanded?
With the Ohio State football team’s game canceled for Saturday and COVID-19 cases climbing throughout the country, should we see a moved up CFP with expansion?
Ryan Day and the Ohio State football team will not be playing this Saturday at College Park, Maryland. For a team that has fought so hard to get to this point by doing all the right procedures and protocols, this is tough for them to swallow.
With the SEC already canceling four games this weekend and COVID-19 cases rising throughout the country, the College Football Playoff Committee should consider moving up the playoffs and expanding them to ensure we crown a champion this season.
Not everyone will agree, but if more games are cancelled, teams like Ohio State, Alabama, and Clemson could be on the outside looking in and that just isn’t right. Given the uncertainty, the CFP should be expanded to 16 games and should start after Thanksgiving.
This gives every credible team, despite however many games they have played, a chance at a National Championship. Money should be no issue at all since these games will more than likely draw huge ratings.
The NCAA does not want a large playoff, yet. They have made that abundantly clear. But for one season, to ensure a 2020 champion, this should get done. Things are clearly not getting better and we risk losing the season that so many have worked so hard to have.
There is too much to risk in letting things play out the way they are. This needs to be discussed amongst conferences and the CFP committee.
