Former Ohio State and NFL WR Anthony Gonzalez has kept his seat in the U.S. House of Representatives after winning reelection in Ohio’s 16th Congressional District.

After defeating Democratic opponent Aaron Godfrey, Anthony Gonzalez will serve his second consecutive term in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Talk about building a resume, Gonzalez was a first-round NFL draft pick in 2007 after an illustrious career at Ohio State and now he has won his second term in the House of Representatives.

Playing for the Buckeyes from 2004 through 2006, #11 hauled in 87 receptions for 1,286 yards and 13 touchdowns. He was then drafted by the Colts in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft where he would go on to spend all 5 of his NFL seasons with the team. In his 5 seasons with the Colts, playing alongside Peyton Manning, Gonzalez racked up 99 receptions for 1,307 yards and 7 touchdowns.

His involvement with college sports has not stopped since he began his career as a politician. In September, Gonzalez co-authored and introduced a bipartisan ‘Student-Athlete Level Playing Field Act’. This bill “grants student-athletes the right to capitalize off their own name, image, and likeness while including important guardrails for the recruitment process and leveling the national playing field by pre-empting the patchwork of state laws that have been signed into law or are pending in state legislatures”, according to a press release on Anthony Gonzalez’s website.

Look for Gonzalez, 36, to be an impact decision-maker as the fight continues for college athletes to receive compensation for their name, image, and likeness. I wouldn’t be surprised to see something change on that front nationwide soon.
