Ohio State football: How the Cam Brown injury affects OSU
By Ryan Stano
Ohio State lost cornerback Cameron Brown for the season after he tore his Achillies against Penn State. Here’s what that means for the Buckeyes moving forward.
Ohio State has been playing really well so far this season. A big reason for that is their depth along most positions on the team. They have enough talent to rotate a lot of players. That depth will be tested after the injury to cornerback Cameron Brown.
Brown, unfortunately, tore his Achilles in the game on Saturday night at Penn State. Brown is now out for the rest of the season. The cornerback depth for the team will now be tested after this injury. Even though Brown wasn’t a top-two corner, this injury still hurts the team.
Brown was rotating with Marcus Williamson in that slot corner position. He wasn’t quite able to break into the top two outside rotation, as that has gone to Shaun Wade and Sevyn Banks. Because he was only rotating into that slot corner position, Ohio State can survive this injury.
Williamson will now become the primary slot corner. The Buckeyes have trusted him to play a lot more this season. They also can play Josh Proctor at that position if needed. He has split time with Marcus Hooker at the safety spot in the middle of the defense.
It sucks for Brown that he got hurt in this manner. He might redshirt this season, even though he already gets another year of eligibility because of the coronavirus situation. He should be able to contribute to the team next year in a big way
