Ohio State football: Will Justin Fields top 2019 performance vs Nebraska?
Justin Fields’ first big test of his Ohio State football career came against Nebraska last season. The night game atmosphere in Lincoln, NE didn’t rattle Fields.
The Ohio State football team scored on their first 6 possessions against the Cornhuskers leading 38-0 at halftime. Fields finished with 15 completions on 21 attempts with 212 passing yards and 3 touchdowns. He ran for 72 yards and 1 touchdown. 4 total touchdowns for the Buckeyes starter was more than enough for the 48-7 win last September.
The question is: Will Justin Fields top his 2019 performance against the ‘Huskers on Saturday?
Let’s first look at the players surrounding Fields this season. With an NFL offensive line up front lead by Wyatt Davis and Josh Myers, Fields will have the protection needed to stay in the pocket to find his multitude of offensive weapons.
Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson are the playmakers on the outside. With a combined 79 receptions, 1,281 yards, and 17 total touchdowns, Olave and Wilson will provide Fields with dynamic playmaking ability through the air.
Highly recruited freshman receivers Julian Fleming, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and Gee Scott Jr. will have the opportunity to make plays as well. Tight ends Luke Farrell and Jeremy Ruckert will create mismatches for Fields against opposing defenses.
In the running game, Master Teague and Trey Sermon are the perfect backfield combination for Fields. Teague’s downhill running ability combined with Sermon’s speed and ability to make plays in the passing game is lethal for this Buckeyes offense.
Fields will have a big day through the air on Saturday. Against an inconsistent Nebraska defense, Fields will have over 350 yards through the air with 5 touchdowns. He will rack up 80 yards on the ground with at least 1 rushing touchdown as well. It will be a highly anticipated performance this Saturday from the Buckeyes QB after the off-season that this team has experienced.
