Ohio State football: Statement time for the Buckeyes
The highly anticipated 2020 season will finally begin on Saturday for the Ohio State Buckeyes and it’s time for them to make a big statement.
Throughout this entire pandemic, the ups and downs of this offseason have been unprecedented, to say the least. Thanks to Justin Fields for his persistent leadership to bring back football on behalf of the entire Big Ten. His efforts finally paid off and big-time for the Buckeyes resulting in the return of Shaun Wade and Wyatt Davis.
Despite not having played yet, the Buckeyes are highly respected being ranked 5 in ESPN’s latest week 8 rankings. Clemson and Alabama are 5-0 and 4-0, respectively. The Buckeyes have catching up to do and there is zero room for error over these next 8 weeks.
Justin Fields and Ryan Day have been seeking revenge since the loss to Clemson in last year’s College Football Playoff Semi-Final matchup. With arguably the most electrifying offense in the country, I don’t think this Buckeyes offense is going to let up on the gas this season. This team has had a chip on their shoulder all off-season and nothing is going to stop this team from scoring 50+ points per game.
The only weakness of this team is COVID. As long as the Buckeyes stay safe and protected, nothing is getting in their way. Ohio State’s secondary will have to step up this season after losing 3 starters to the NFL in Jordan Fuller, Damon Arnette, and Jeff Okudah. With Kerry Coombs leading that unit, there should be no glaring weaknesses despite the inexperience.
It is statement time for the Buckeyes. Don’t be surprised if this home opener gets ugly early. Expect Fields and this offense to start fast and keep their foot on the gas all game against the Cornhuskers. The Bucks are back and ready to wreak havoc!
