With the season coming back in two weeks, it’s time for another flashback game.  This time, it was when the Ohio State Buckeyes took on the team up north aka Michigan in a rainy 2007 game at the “Big House.”

This game was a defensive battle throughout the day as both teams scored a total of 17 points, one of the lowest scoring-wise when it comes to “The Game.” A year ago, it was both teams ranked one vs two, looking to make it to the BCS National Championship.  In 2007, it was Michigan rebuilding after an upsetting early loss to FCS opponent Appalachian State.  Meanwhile, Ohio State was looking to bounce back and make it to the BCS after an upset loss to rival Illinois.

We all saw a defensive battle throughout the first quarter where no teams were able to move the ball much.  The only highlights that came out of the first was a K.C. Lopata 33-yard field goal making it 3-0 Michigan.

In the second quarter, it was Chris “Beanie” Wells who drove down the field by himself, finishing the drive off with a one-yard touchdown run early on in the second making it 7-3 Buckeyes.  The only big highlight of that game came later on when Wells took off in the wet turf of Michigan, taking it 62-yards to the house making it 14-3.

Michigan tried to make something happen with just over four minutes to go in the fourth, but quarterback Chad Henne and the Wolverines turned the ball over on downs, as the Buckeyes continued a winning streak against Michigan while keeping their title hopes alive.

In the end, Michigan’s longtime head coach Lloyd Carr won his final game as head coach in a 41-35 win against ninth-ranked Florida led by Urban Meyer and Tim Tebow.

For Ohio State, they made it to the BCS National Championship under Jim Tressel where they lost 38-24 against LSU led by Les Miles.
