Ohio State basketball: Bucks to participate in Crossover Classic
By Ryan Stano
Ohio State is now in a new early-season tournament event that the Battle 4 Atlantis has been canceled. It has some premium teams in it as well.
The Ohio State basketball team was slated to participate in the Battle 4 Atlantis in November before COVID hit in March. Unfortunately, that tournament has been canceled because of the pandemic. Now a new one has taken its place.
That tournament is the Crossover Classic. It has a total of 8 teams in it and will be played in Sioux Fall, South Dakota from November 25-27. The teams in it are Ohio State, Memphis, Texas A&M, West Virginia, Utah, Creighton, Witchita State, and Dayton.
The Buckeyes are slated to play Memphis in the first round. That is an intriguing first matchup, as both teams could be ranked in the preseason top 25 heading into that game. It will be a good early-season test for both teams coming off of strong seasons a year ago.
Duke is the only team that was originally slated to play in the Battle 4 Atlantis that is not partaking in this new tournament. It’s a shame they didn’t want to play in this one because that would have added a marquee program to the tournament field.
Ohio State has some things to figure out before they play these games. They have to see if Seth Towns will be healthy enough to start the season. The same goes for Musa Jallow after he missed all of last year with an ankle injury. They replace most of their starting lineup from a year ago in fact.
They will find out very quickly how all of the new pieces will mesh with this early-season tournament for the Ohio State basketball team. Hopefully, they are able to play well and maybe even win the whole thing.
