The Washington Football Team announced that the former Ohio State quarterback will now be the third-string quarterback and Kyle Allen will be the starter.

Dwayne Haskins had an unbelievable one season as a starter at Ohio State. In 2018, he threw for 50 touchdowns, 4,831 yards, and was a finalist for the Heisman trophy. He was the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year and ended up being a first-round pick.

Of course, he got drafted to the worst possible franchise. He got drafted by the Washington Football Team franchise, which has a history of dysfunction, harassment, and losing. He could not have been put into a worse situation from the get-go.

To make matters worse, the coach he had in his rookie year didn’t even want him. Jay Gruden seemed to want Haskins to fail from the moment he stepped into the facility. Haskins also had no weapons around him and a flailing offensive line who was without their Pro Bowl left tackle because he was holding out because he no longer trusted the organization.

Dwayne Haskins tried to make the best of last season when he finally was named the starter. Once Gruden was fired, it looked like Haskins was finally going to get an opportunity to succeed and learn on the job. There were certainly some bumps in the road, but he was growing.

Ron Rivera is the new head coach in Washington and said Haskins won the job before the season. Now after just four games, Haskins is getting benched. This is despite throwing for a career-high 314 yards and 0 interceptions against the Ravens last week.

Washington will now start Kyle Allen, who failed miserably last season in Carolina. To make matters worse, Haskins won’t even be the backup. That job will go to Alex Smith, someone who hasn’t played football in two years. Haskins is getting the short end of the stick.

Maybe it’s better this way. Maybe Haskins will get traded to an organization that doesn’t have an owner who has been accused of sexual harassment. Maybe he’ll go to a place that actually tries to give him the pieces he needs to succeed.

It really is a shame that Haskins never got the chance to succeed in the NFL. Allen is going to flail for the next four games and then they are going to put Smith in at the end of the season. I can already see it now. This organization is a mess. It’s a shame that other former Buckeyes Terry McLaurin and Chase Young also have to deal with it.

We can only hope that Dwayne Haskins gets another chance with a better organization so he can show the NFL what he is truly made of.
