Ohio State participated in its first padded practice today. They have fully started to prepare for the 2020 season.

Ohio State faces off against Nebraska on October 24, which is 22 days away. They haven’t been able to fully prepare like they would want to until today. Today is the first day that the Big Ten is allowed to have padded practice. The Buckeyes did indeed practice in pads today.

Coach Ryan Day did say he was going to let his team ease into hitting. There’s no need to rush into things because that’s how players get hurt. The team needs to gradually get used to the soreness that they will have from hitting.

This is also the first day that the Buckeyes will undergo daily testing for COVID-19. This is how we will find out just how careful these players have been. COVID seems to be the only thing that can stop the Buckeyes from winning a national championship this season.

As far as practice goes, Ohio State has some things they need to figure out before the opener. One of those things is the division of snaps between Trey Sermon and Master Teague. Now that Teague is fully healthy, he has a chance to claim the starting running back spot.

My guess is that depending on how practice goes for the next couple of weeks, the backs will split carries at about a 50/50 rate for week 1. That game may determine who gets the majority of snaps moving forward. Both players will be incredibly motivated in practice to get that starting nod.

It’s just good to see Ohio State back on the practice field after a long offseason of craziness. Before you know it, the Buckeyes will be marching on the field in Lincoln to get their season going.
