Ohio State football: Haskell Garrett suffers gunshot wound
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State defensive lineman suffered a non-lethal gunshot wound to his face after a dispute on campus.
Ohio State football players are still on campus taking classes like every other student despite not preparing for a Fall football season like they normally would be. Unfortunately, Haskell Garrett, a defensive tackle for the Buckeyes was shot last night while on campus.
Garrett suffered a non-lethal gunshot to his cheek late last night according to 10TV. Apparently Garrett was shot around 12:30 am at the 400 block of Chittenden Ave near 11th avenue. It’s unclear was precipitated the shooting.
The good news is that Garrett is in stable condition and is expected to recover. This would be a devastating blow for any program to have a player seriously injured by gun violence. Fortunately, it looks like Garrett will make a full recovery. That is the best news out of all of this.
As of right now, there is no suspect in the shooting. Garrett is someone the Buckeyes were counting on to have an impact this season after only appearing in 13 games over his first three seasons at Ohio State. As a senior, he has a decision to make regarding his future.
Garrett can opt to stay and play Spring football and then leave right after. He can also play Spring ball and also play in the Fall next season as well. Garrett can also decide to do none of the above and decide to end his football career. He has some thinking to do.
Hopefully this event last night doesn’t affect his decision on how he should end his football career. He should be able to make his own decision independent of injury.
