Without the stringent testing the Ohio State football players were going through, players are now more at risk of contracting the virus.

The cancelation of the Fall football season has not sat well with players, coaches, or even parents. It’s not just that the players don’t get to play football anymore, it’s that there is no transparency as to why the decision was made. It also makes players less safe in a lot of their minds.

Players are concerned now about the possibility of contracting COVID now that they won’t be in the football facilities daily. They were getting tested at least twice a week why they were training for the football season. Now they won’t have access to such rapid testing.

Justin Fields, Trevor Lawrence, and other football players have talked about how they feel safer playing football. Players have something to stay committed to so they won’t go out and party or do something irresponsible to possibly contract the virus.

That incentive is now gone for most of the Ohio State football players. Without a season to look forward to, most players are just on campus like a regular student. At some point, classes will go back to being all online and players will go home. They won’t have any supervision from the football staff once that happens.

Since there is no incentive to not go out without a season to look forward to, there is a higher chance that players will go out and not observe social distancing guidelines. That will lead to players getting sick. That’s what players and staff don’t want to happen.

Without the season being played, players will have to take it upon themselves to be disciplined enough to not give in to the temptations of going out. They will have to be smart and wear a mask like everyone else.
