The Big Ten Commissioner took away Ohio State’s shot for a national championship. Now he’s banking on other conferences to do the same for their teams.

There has been a lot of Kevin Warren slander for the last two weeks from fans. Frankly, there has been a lot on this site as well. Fans aren’t just upset that the season is canceled, they are upset because Warren refuses to release any specific reasons as to why it needed to be.

Warren is taking a massive risk in doing so. He is banking on the fact that other conferences won’t be able to complete their seasons either. He wants to have the distinction of making the “correct” decision first and leading the way for other conferences to follow suit.

What he didn’t expect was schools like Ohio State to push back so strongly. Gene Smith fired back at the vague reasons why he canceled the season. Parents of Ohio State football players published a letter towards him, and Nebraska’s parents have now done the same.

Warren is hoping that this temporary backlash will all be worth it in a few months. He believes that other conferences won’t be able to finish their seasons. Once that happens, he can claim to be the best leader of all of the other leaders. It’s a giant political play.

It’s a gamble that will define his tenure as Big Ten Commissioner. Either he will get what he wants, or this plan will blow up in his face and he will forever be remembered as the guy who canceled football when it didn’t need to be.

Next. Any chance of at a Fall season has to happen now. dark

Only time will tell which side of the story will be written. One thing is for sure though: Ohio State fans will never forgive him for his rush to judgment.
