After an order was signed by Governor Mike DeWine, every other major team in Ohio will be playing football this Fall except Ohio State.

Ohio State is arguably the football team in the state of Ohio with the biggest following. They are loved from Columbus to Cincinnati to Cleveland and all places in between. Yet they are the one team in the state of Ohio who aren’t going to be playing football this Fall.

Governor Mike DeWine signed an executive order to allow all teams in the state to play Fall sports. In the case of high school sports, only parents may be in attendance. But the Browns, Bengals, and Bearcats will all be playing football this Fall without too much issue.

This underscores the absurdity that the Big Ten has canceled Fall sports. Pennsylvania, where Penn State is located, is doing the same thing that the state of Ohio is doing. Iowa and Nebraska have already voiced that they want to play in the Fall as well.

Kevin Warren’s leadership has been maligned by everyone in the Midwest. Petitions have been signed to get the Big Ten to change their decision. Yet there has been silence from the offices of the Big Ten. No one has come out with any reasons for the cancelations beyond vague dialogue.

If Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State threw their weight around the conference a little bit, they might be able to change this decision. If they all threatened to leave the conference, Warren would have no choice but to reverse course. He can’t lose his three biggest brands.

Will the Governor’s order get the Big Ten to change their mind? Highly unlikely. But it just shows one more level to the incompetence that the Big Ten conference has shown over the last month or so.
