On Tuesday, August 11th, the Big Ten became the first power five conferences to cancel their fall football season and in turn, the football season for the Ohio State Buckeyes was ended before it even got the chance to begin.

Outrage came from Ohio State Buckeyes players, their fans, and even their head coach Ryan Day spoke out saying that they wanted to play this season as scheduled.

The Buckeyes quarterback and potential number one overall pick in the upcoming 2021 NFL draft, Justin Fields tweeted saying, “There’s been too much work put in!! #WeWantToPlay

Ryan Day the head coach of the Buckeyes had much more to say on the issue. He took to Twitter to say, “Swinging as hard as we possibly can right now for these players!! This fight isn’t over! #Fight”.

Furthermore, in an interview, he went deeper into the lead up to the closure and what he plans to do moving forward. Day was quoted as saying, “We have to at the very least, postpone it, and allow us a little bit of time to keep reevaluating everything that’s going on, that’s the reason why we put this schedule together, to have some flexibility. … We owe it to these kids to exhaust every single option we possibly can and then we go from there.”

It seemed that the Buckeyes were in heavy contention to win the national title this year and with the Big 10 shutting down football in 2020, it seems as if a championship this season will be nothing but a pipedream for fans and players alike.

With conferences like the Big 12, SEC, and the ACC likely not suspending their seasons, it appears that the college football schedule will carry on as usual. Even if the Big Ten agrees on continuing football in the spring, it appears that any semblance of a college football playoff we will see would have already happened before the Buckeyes even begin their season.

All in all, it appears that as a result of this decision the Big 10 has likely squandered Justin Fields’s last season in a Buckeye uniform as well as the chance of any team from the conference going on to represent the Big 10 in the college football playoff.

Next. Ohio State players deserve a chance to play. dark

The only thing that Buckeye fans can hold onto during this cancelation of play is that maybe the Big 10 will continue conference only play in the spring and we will get to see the Buckeyes steamroll every team in their path and even see Ryan Day keep his promise of hanging 100 on the team up North.
