Ohio State Football: “Could have been in a once-in-a-lifetime team.”
By Alex Austin
It is clear at this point that Ohio State will not be playing any type of football this fall, and Ryan Day elaborates on why that is such a hard pill to swallow.
Ryan Day is still upset the season is over. It was taken away without consulting him and it will take some time for Day to really move on from this season. Why? Day explained to his players why the loss of a season hurt so much.
"This team is special. It’s special because it’s talented. It’s special because it has leadership. It’s special because of the character. It could have been in a once-in-a-lifetime team."
This is more than just the loss of a season for Ohio State. Other schools are going through this too, but what makes the Buckeyes different are the possibilities that have been taken away from this team.
This team had a favorite to win the Heisman trophy and was one of the top teams in the country. Buckeye Nation was waiting to see what Justin Fields could do in Year 2 at the helm after an incredible first year.
The wide receiver room was as deep and talented as any in the country and paring that with the best offensive line in football would have produced some truly incredible performances.
Sure, there were holes and question marks, just like every team has before the season starts and you really see what the team is made of, but this was a talented group of kids.
Ryan Day has tried to stay positive about the future and highlight the benefits of playing a spring football season. And while it is important for him to look ahead at what is coming up, letting these players know how important they are to him now becomes an important process.
In order to keep this team intact and prepared for whatever lies ahead, Day will need to continue to grow the trust he has developed with each young man.
The Buckeyes will be ready for whatever spring looks like but will always look back and wonder what could have been.
