Ohio State football: How a Spring season can be a positive
By Ryan Stano
Ohio State and the rest of the Big Ten won’t be playing football until the Spring. While that is a big-time bummer for football fans everywhere, here is how it can be a positive.
2020 has been a year of unprecedented times. There have been things that have happened this year that haven’t happened in 100 years. Hopefully they don’t happen for another 100. That includes the cancelation of the Fall football season.
We know that it ends Ohio State’s chance for a national title. It ends a lot of players’ careers too. But there are some ways that the Spring season can be a positive for the Buckeyes. You have to look a little deeper for those reasons to jump out because they aren’t necessarily obvious.
One positive is that it looks like early enrollees will get to play in the Spring. For high school prospects who have had their senior seasons canceled, this is a great way to get back on the field and get back to football. Several freshmen would make an early impact on this team.
A Spring season would also give some unheralded players a chance to shine. The Buckeyes will likely lose Justin Fields, Chris Olave, Whyatt Davis, Shaun Wade, and more as they prepare for the NFL. That just gives the young guys a chance to show something sooner.
While this situation is far from ideal, positives can still be taken from any situation. Ohio State’s coaching staff will undoubtedly be preaching those positives from now until Spring football comes. While we don’t know when that is, Day will have his team ready.
While we don’t know for sure, the schedule should be the same in terms of opponents. We are just waiting on the timing of the schedule, and we eagerly await that.
