Ohio State Football: So, what happens now?
By Alex Austin
We know that Ohio State will not play football in 2020 and will instead try and play a spring season with the rest of the Big Ten. What we don’t know? Pretty much everything else.
Ohio State will not be playing a fall football season.
The shock of that sentence might never fully go away, but it is something that we will need to accept and move on. We do not know everything that will happen because of this decision, since there are still so many variables.
We don’t know if/who will be playing this fall. We know the CFP will still be happening. We don’t know what players might leave the Big Ten or Pac 12 and head to a team that has a chance to play this fall. We don’t know what players will stick around for a spring season, or who will decide to start preparing for the NFL.
With so much uncertainty, it can be difficult to see where Ohio State goes from here.
We know that currently, the Buckeyes are planning on playing some kind of football in spring (really winter) which would most likely be a condensed schedule.
We know that Ryan Day is continuing to fight for his program to be in the best position for short and long-term success.
And we know that Ohio State is not built on one great recruiting class but has a long tenure of bringing in great players.
A lot of what happens now to Ohio State is about waiting and seeing what other conferences decide to do. Absolutely nothing is certain when it comes to a world in a pandemic, and there will be plenty of changes that occur from now until the end.
For now, all we can do is wait, imagine what could have been and look forward to a double dose of football in 2021.
