The Big Ten has released the expected schedule for the upcoming 2020 season. Ohio State has retained most of its previously scheduled opponents, but the timing of some games is surprising.

We are one step closer to having a college football season this fall. While the Big Ten revealing the upcoming schedule is still dependent on games being played, it is a good sign that things are trending in the right direction.

Ohio State was able to retain all of their conference matchups this season and added an away matchup against Purdue as the additional Big Ten game on their schedule.

The biggest shock to Buckeye fans will come with the timing of some of these games. Ohio State will close the season against Iowa which pushes the annual rivalry matchup against Michigan earlier in the year.

This season Ohio State and Michigan will play on October 24th instead of the traditional Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Even with a lot of speculation about pushing the biggest games of the year to the beginning of the schedule, Ohio State’s two biggest matchups will take place at the back-end of the season. Michigan is happening October 24th and Penn State set to be played on November 7th.

The other surprise on Ohio State’s schedule is that their season will start on a Thursday night matchup against Illinois. Last year the Buckeyes played Northwestern on a Friday, but non-Saturday games are rare for big Power Five programs to play.

The Buckeyes may catch a break here since starting the season off on a Thursday means that they won’t have to deal with a shortened week during the season.

The Big Ten has left the week of November 28th completely free of football to make sure that a week of flexibility is available for teams who may have to reschedule throughout the season.
