The Ohio State football team never stops on the recruiting trail as they landed in-state four-star linebacker Gabe Powers last week.

The decision ultimately was an easy one for the top prospect in all of Ohio to make. The four-star linebacker from Marysville, Gabe Powers, chose to play Ohio State football late last week.

The No. 46 overall player in the class according to 247Sports is a big recruiting win for linebackers coach Al Washington and the Buckeyes. And coach Washington made sure to let Powers know where he stood with him and Ohio State, via Eleven Warriors:

"“I was talking to Coach Washington, and he said the reason I was the first linebacker he gave an offer to is because he really wanted me there.”"

As the top overall player in the state of Ohio for 2022 is committed, the Buckeyes now turn their attention to the rest of the class. And it could be another big one for coach Ryan Day and Ohio State.

The foundation of this class is already set with four verbal commitments already as they are all Ohio kids and top 150 national recruits. Defensive back Jyaire Brown, linebacker C.J. Hicks and offensive lineman Tegra Tshabola all have committed to the Buckeyes for 2022.

Now its time for Day and recruiting coordinator Mark Pantoni to branch out and get some top national recruits. The top targets for Ohio State include the top wide receiver in the class Caleb Burton from Del Valle, Texas, four-star defensive end Kenyatta Jackson from Hollywood, Florida, five-star corner William Johnson from Grosse Pointe, Michigan and four-star athlete Dasan McCullough from Overland Park, Kansas.

Look for the Buckeyes to start hitting the 2022 recruiting trail hard now that the 2021 class is having its finishing touches put upon it. With Ohio State expected to have the No. 1 overall class in 2021, the 2022 class is just getting started. But landing its first top 50 national recruit in Gabe Powers should get the ball rolling.
