The Ohio State football team is set to kick off summer camp soon. Who could wind up being a surprise player in 2020?

As we are set to embark on a season unlike any other, the Ohio State football team sets out for a chance to play for a national championship with summer camp set to start.

With all the uncertainty out in the world, there will also be some uncertainty when it comes to this Buckeye roster once games get under way. This Ohio State team will need some players to step up to fill shoes left by players who have moved on from last season.

Let’s take a look at players who could surprise us in 2020.

Steele Chambers, Running back

Steele Chambers could be a player to keep an out for in 2020. With Trey Sermon coming aboard from Oklahoma and a rash of injuries at the tailback position behind him, Chambers is set to receive a massive workload once summer camp begins.

And if the former four-star back who was a part of the 2019 recruiting class can take advantage, then playing time could be warranted for Chambers.

Dawand Jones, Offensive tackle

The Buckeyes have an open spot at right tackle and it’s assumed that former five-star recruit Nicholas Petite-Frere or incoming freshman Parris Johnson are the front runners. Dawand Jones might throw a monkey wrench into those plans.

Earning playing time as a true freshman is nothing to sneeze at and that’s exactly what Jones did last season coming in as a three-star recruit. Seemingly already having some trust built up with the coaching staff, Jones might earn the starting job with a strong camp.

Taron Vincent, Defensive tackle

The former five-star recruit from the 2018 class will finally get a chance this summer camp to prove what he can do. Being blocked by upper-classmen and having some injury problems have led Vincent to become a forgotten man.

But not in 2020 as the Buckeyes will look upon him to help form a reliable rotation at the defensive tackle positions. And if he can stay healthy, Vincent has all the tools in the world to become a dominate player.

Cam BrownCornerback

With all the hype on Shaun Wade and Sevyn Banks, it might be Cam Brown who takes this position by storm in 2020. Remember, it was Cam Brown who was receiving back-up reps late in the season last year and that experience can help him win a starting job this season.

With teams probably not going to throw the ball in Shaun Wade’s direction, Brown will have a massive amount of opportunity to prove that he can be the next man up at ‘DBU.’
