Ohio State Recruiting: Four-star linebacker great get for Buckeyes
Ryan Day landed another player in his 2022 Ohio State recruiting class yesterday. The newest commit is a highly ranked linebacker which is a position of need.
Gabe Powers announced yesterday he is joining the 2022 Ohio State recruiting class. Powers is an in-state player from Marysville and is ranked as a four-star recruit.
The 6ft. 4, 220 pound OLB is ranked as the 2nd best at his position and the No. 45 player overall according to the 247Sports Composite. He is also the No. 1 ranked player in the state of Ohio.
Powers joins another highly ranked linebacker in the ’22 class. C.J. Hicks is 6 ft. 3, 218 pounds and ranked the No. 117 overall player and the 8th best OLB.
Both of these players were important gets.
There isn’t a shortage of talented linebackers on the Ohio State football team at the moment but the LB room will be thinning out over the next couple of years. Tuf Borland, Pete Werner, Baron Browning and Justin Hilliard are all seniors. K’Vaughan Pope, Teradja Mitchell and Dallas Gant are entering their third year in the program.
Having two top-tier linebackers in the 2022 class this soon has to make coach Al Washington thrilled. It also has him ranked as the top recruiter in the class at the moment.
The linebackers coach will almost certainly try to add another player to his unit in the 2021 class as well. Reid Carrico, the 2nd highest ranked ILB, is the only linebacker committed to the class.
With the way coach Washington is rolling on the recruiting trail, I’ll bet another LB will join Carrico in the No. 1 ranked class.
With Powers committing, the 2022 Ohio State recruiting class is solidly in 2nd place in the 247Sports Composite behind LSU with a slightly higher player average.
