Garrett Wilson showed his potential in his freshman season with good production. Now with a year under his belt and key contributors from last year gone, Wilson needs to take the next step for the Ohio State Buckeyes to be successful.

Garrett Wilson became a household name for the casual Ohio State fan during the biggest game of the year. Just like Chris Olave did the year before him, Wilson shined brightest during the Buckeyes’ annual dismantling of Michigan.

Now entering his second season with the Buckeyes, Wilson is in a prime spot to elevate his involvement with the offense.

Last year Wilson had a great Freshman campaign that saw his haul in 432 yards and 5 touchdowns as he was usually the third or fourth option on offense.

This year Wilson will move up to be the second-best option out of the wide receiver group behind only Olave. Olave will likely see defenses shift to try and stop him which puts Wilson in prime territory to consistently have one on one matchups.

There is also some uncertainty for the Buckeyes at the running back position, so Justin Fields may be passing the ball more frequently in 2020.

Because of these changes, a jump in statistical production is likely for the second-year wideout. A stat line more closely mirroring what Binjamen Victor did last year should be expected for Wilson which would including roughly 600 yards receiving and 7 touchdowns.

Wilson is considered to be a more talented recruit than Victor so the above stat line should be considered the floor for Victor this year. Wilson, like Victor, is considered at his best in the red zone when he can highball a pass and out jump a defender to come down with the ball.

With a shortened season, Victor most likely will not be breaking any records, but this is an important season to show that he can be the lead receiver when Olave leaves for the NFL.
