After Chase Young signed his $34.56 million contract with the Washington Football Team, the Ohio State lineage of defensive ends continued to get paid.

Joey Bosa inked a 5-year, $135 million contract, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

This 5-year extension will tie the Chargers DE to LA for the next six years. The former No. 3 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft is guaranteed $102M, which is a new NFL defensive record. Bosa becomes the highest-paid defensive player after only 4 seasons in the league.

Bosa’s guaranteed money is $2 million more than Browns Myles Garrett recently received.

As a Pro Bowler in 2019, Bosa had 67 total tackles which included 11.5 sacks, 9th most in the NFL last season. According to Pro Football Focus, Bosa is the highest-graded pass-rushing EDGE defender in the NFL (91.4) since 2017.

Bosa becomes the 2nd Buckeye to receive a contract for over $100. The other $100 million Buckeye and Saints WR Michael Thomas expressed his excitement for Bosa.

In just four seasons, Bosa has solidified himself as one of the best in the league racking up 40 sacks and over 201 total tackles. Bosa’s 40 sacks rank 2nd most by a Chargers player in their first 4 seasons since Leslie O’Neal. He was ranked 34th overall in 2020 NFL Top 100 Players, which is voted on by the players. He was ranked No. 56 last year.

Ohio State players continue to get paid large sums of money, as Ezekiel Elliott and Michael Thomas have already signed extensions for $90 million and $100 million respectively. It clearly pays to be a Buckeye.
