Ohio State was able to flip four-star cornerback Jordan Hancock from Clemson. This is why it’s such an important get for the program.

The Ohio State football team added to their great recruiting class of 2021 by landing four-star corner Jordan Hancock. Adding a great player is always something you want to do in any recruiting cycle, but this one is a little bit more important in this case.

Number one, flipping a recruit from Clemson is always a win. Clemson is one of the premier programs in all of college football. Taking a player from them not only makes the Buckeyes stronger but makes the Tigers weaker too. It’s a small measure of revenge for what happened last December.

Number two, it gives the Buckeyes more depth in the secondary for this class. Pairing with Jakailin Johnson, these two players are the 4th and 5th best corners in the country. It solidifies the “BIA” moniker that Ohio State has earned by having so many great defensive backs.

Ohio State football proves they can recruit defensively too

The most important takeaway from the Buckeyes landing Hancock is that it solidifies the fact that Ryan Day and his staff can recruit all over the field. When Day was hired, people around college football were concerned that he could only recruit top offensive talent.

While Day continues to recruit offensive players at a high level, this shows he can also bring home some great defensive guys. Having assistant coaches like Larry Johnson and Kerry Coombs doesn’t hurt when it comes to recruiting either. Those assistants are crucial to recruiting success.

The Buckeyes are getting stronger with every passing year. Right now, they have the number one recruiting class by a significant margin over Alabama. They will look to add to that margin later in the summer too as they are favored to land defensive end J.T Tuimoloau, who is the second-best player in the country at any position.

Expect Day and his staff to only get better at recruiting both sides of the ball as their on the field success continues.
