With hopes of college football returning, here is what the college football landscape looked like 25 seasons ago. Nebraska finished #1 overall in the final AP Poll after defeating #2 Florida in the Fiesta Bowl for the national championship. Eddie George won the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Award and Doak Walker Award following a 1,826 rushing yard and 23-touchdown senior year performance.
Among other Buckeye award winners include Terry Glenn, Fred Biletnikoff Award recipient, and Orlando Pace, who took home the Vince Lombardi Award.
Current Northwestern Head Coach Pat Fitzgerald was the winner of the Bronko Nagurski Award and the Chuck Bednarik Award following the 1995 season as well.
Eddie George, Orlando Pace, and Terry Glenn were all Consensus All-Americans for the offense that included other stars such as USC WR Keyshawn Johnson, UCLA OL Jonathan Ogden, and Nebraska QB Tommie Frazier.
Among the Big Ten coaches included John Cooper, Joe Paterno, Lloyd Carr, Barry Alvarez, and Nick Saban who led the Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Michigan State programs respectively.
Fast forward 25 seasons, Ryan Day has his team in a position to win even more games for the next 25 seasons. With the 2021 #1 ranked recruiting class in the country, the Buckeyes’ talent continues to reload as Coach Day will continue to produce championship teams for years to come.
