The Ohio State football program has done an amazing job of being consistently good for several decades. Multiple teams have won national titles, but these are the three best teams to not win one.

Ohio State has been a perennial power for the last 20 years or so. The Buckeyes have had several teams who were absolutely stacked with talent. Most of those teams went on to cash out on that talent and won the national championship.

The most recent version of those teams were 2014 and 2002. Both teams had superior talent and were able to showcase that talent at the end of the year when it mattered most. Those two teams lost a combined one game in those two years. Most of their other winning teams were in the same camp.

In their 8 national championships winning seasons, the Buckeyes went a combined 83-4-1. Some of those teams, such as the 1968 team, were absolutely dominant. That 1968 team coached by the legendary Woody Hayes had an average winning margin of 16.8 points per game.

For all of their winning ways over the years, the Buckeyes have had a few teams that had immense talent and didn’t walk away with a national title. Those teams are perhaps the most frustrating to think about for Ohio State fans. Those are what we will talk about today.

These are the three best teams that the Ohio State football team has ever fielded that didn’t end up winning a national championship. The first one on this list perhaps had the most on the field talent of the three, but wasn’t cohesive enough to win all their games.
