Ohio State Football has the best recruiters in the country
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team has a great head coach who is a great recruiter. But his assistants are also the best recruiters in the country.
Ryan Day has already established himself as a great on the field coach. He went 13-1 in his first full season as head coach after going 3-0 in Urban Meyer’s absence in 2018. Day has also established himself as one of the premier recruiters in the country as well.
Day was able to bring in talents such as Chris Olave, Nicholas Petit-Frere, and Jeremy Ruckert. All of these players will play a massive role in this upcoming 2020 season. Day is an excellent recruiter, but his assistants might be the best at what they do in the country too.
According to 247 Sports’ recruiter rankings, the Buckeyes have 4 of the top 10 recruiters in the country for the 2021 class, and 3 of the top 4. Tony Alford, Kerry Coombs, Brian Hartline, and Larry Johnson are those coaches. Alford is number one overall, with Coombs at two, Hartline at four, and Johnson at eight.
Ohio State’s assistant coaches are elite recruiters
Having four coaches that recruit at an elite level like that makes the 2021 class one of the best, if not the best, in school history. All four coaches have a track record of bringing in and developing top talent. All four have produced high draft picks in recent drafts.
Alford brought in Mike Weber and J.K. Dobbins. Coombs has brought in players such as Marshon Lattimore, Eli Apple, and Denzel Ward. Hartline helped bring in Olave, Garrett Wilson, and Julian Fleming. Johnson brought in Nick Bosa, Chase Young, and Zach Harrison.
That is an astounding amount of talent at one program. Those are all of the past players that they have brought in. Looking at the 2021 class, Ohio State brings in the number one overall recruit in Jack Sawyer, the number two running back in TreyVeyon Henderson, the number three quarterback in Kyle McCord, and more.
Recruiting is the lifeblood of any program. There’s a reason Ohio State football is the king of the Big Ten; it’s because they recruit better than anyone else. Now they recruit better than anyone in the country. These assistant coaches are a big reason why.
