Ohio State Buckeyes basketball 2010s All-Decade team
By Ryan Stano
Shooting guard doesn’t quite have the depth that point guard does in this decade. In the end, William Buford gets the nod as the starter. Buford played two seasons in this decade, averaging 14.5 points per game and shooting 40% from deep in those two seasons.
Buford was on the 2012 Final Four team and was a big reason the Buckeyes made it that far. He was very good in the NCAA tournament that year, only being held to single-digit scoring efforts once. He even had 19 against Kansas in a game they ultimately lost.
The backup spot was a tough fill, but Jon Diebler makes the most sense. Diebler only played one season in this decade, but it was a very effective one. In that 2010-2011 season, he scored 12.6 points per game and shot a scorching 50% from deep.
Diebler was the ultimate shooting weapon. He spaced the floor in every game that he played and stretched the defense. Every team had to account for him at all times. Because of how deadly he was, he was an excellent decoy to use on offense as well.
Small forward is a position where there was a lot more talent to choose from. This is a position that you can score one for the Holtman era, as every player so far has been a Matta coached guy.
