No. 3 Jack Sawyer | Class of 2021

The second player on this list recruited by Ryan Day won’t play Ohio State football for a while, but defensive end Jack Sawyer just piles onto the impressive job this current coaching staff has done on the recruiting trail in such a short time.

Sawyer is a 6 ft. 5 senior at Pickerington North High School in Pickerington, Ohio and absolutely tore up defenses last season as a junior. He recorded 37 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 13.5 sacks and one forced fumble.

His size and speed off the edge is dangerous and his athleticism is unrivaled in the state of Ohio. So much so, Sawyer also plays quarterback for his team showing just how versatile of an athlete he is.

When Sawyer joins the team in the fall of 2021 he will be the fourth straight five-star defensive lineman to be on the Ohio State football roster. Nick Bosa, Chase Young and Zach Harrison have already made plenty of impact in Columbus, and Sawyer is primed to be the next on that list. Sawyer is also now the No. 2 highest-rated recruit in Ohio high school football history.

Assuming that Sawyer wins the starting job as a freshman, it will be hard to imagine a scarier defensive end combo than Harrison and Sawyer in 2021.

If it wasn’t clear already Ryan Day is no joke when it comes to recruiting it should be now. While the ability to recruit just comes easier at Ohio State because of how elite the program has been for so long, coach Day and his staff should be commended for the job they have done so far.

But for as good a job as they have done, Jim Tressel takes the cake with the next two recruits on this list.
