The pace Ryan Day’s 2021 Ohio State recruiting class is on it could end up as the best ever in player average, ahead of the one in 2017.

Urban Meyer taught Ryan Day how to load up an Ohio State recruiting class. Now the pupil may pass the teacher.

In an article by Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports he listed the top 10 recruiting classes as player average and the 2017 Ohio State recruiting class came in at No. 1 at 94.49. The 2021 class has a player average of 95.34 at the moment.

Let’s take a look at top prospects who could join the class and give coach Day the top one in just his second recruiting cycle. I’ll look at those listed by Bill Kurelic of 247Sports and their recruiting rankings per the 247Sports Composite.

When following recruiting, I always pay attention to 247Sports for great info and Mr. Kurelic is one of the best in the business. Just think if he is right on the money, which he often is, and coach Day fills out his class with a few of these guys.

Here are quick takes on the players mentioned.

If Lathom and Burton join the class it would give coach Greg Studrawa four outstanding linemen along with four-star OT Ben Christman and five star OG Donovan Jackson.

Egbuka joining Marvin Harrison Jr. and Jayden Ballard would give Brian Hartline another outstanding group of wide receivers to work with.

The tight end room will be thinning out soon so if Wolfe joins Sam Hart that would be a plus.

What if Malone joins the class? Coach Larry Johnson already has Mike Hall, the No. 5 DT, and two of the four top strongside defensive ends in the class on board. Think coach J wouldn’t love to have another stud defensive lineman to play in the middle to go with those guys?

Not sure about Davis though. Although he is an intriguing prospect, just how many defensive backs will coach Day let Kerry Coombs bring in?

Next. Not just DBU, DEU as well. dark

However things play out for the 2021 Ohio State recruiting class, it will be a great one. And when all is said and done it could be ranked as the best ever.
