Everybody is well aware the Ohio State football program is known as DBU. Now it has become DEU as well with NFL teams looking for Buckeyes who can get after quarterbacks.
247Sports ranked the top schools for sending edge rushers to the NFL and Ohio State leads the way. Here is the criteria they used to determine the rankings as reported in the article.
"Each NFL Draft pick produced received a point value, seven points for a first rounder, one point for a seventh rounder and the correlating point value for every round in between."
Now a look at the players mentioned and you will see why the Buckeyes are ranked No. 1.
- Joey Bosa, No. 3 pick in 2016 NFL Draft:. Joey was named the AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and has made two Pro Bowls. During his four years in the NFL Bosa has registered 201 tackles and 40 sacks.
Two years later three Ohio State defensive ends were drafted.
- Tyquan Lewis 2nd Round
- Sam Hubbard 3rd Round
- Jalyn Holmes 4th Round
Hubbard has been the star of this group as he has registered 115 tackles and 14.5 sacks during his first two seasons.
- Nick Bosa No. 2 pick 2019: Nick couldn’t let older brother Joey upstage him. Last season he had 47 tackles, 9 sacks and was named AP Defensive Rookie of the Year.
- Chase Young No. 2 pick 2020: Look out Bosas. another beast who wore Scarlet and Gray will soon make his mark. I’m sure Joey and Nick will love having Chase join the club though.
Since Larry Johnson came to Columbus in 2014 the Buckeyes have always had outstanding defensive ends. With the talented edge rushers on the current roster and ones in the 2021 recruiting class expect that to continue. Ohio State will be known as DEU as long as coach J is around.
