Ryan Day’s 2021 Ohio State recruiting class was off to a fast start through the end of January. Once Kerry Coombs returned it has been in overdrive.

The 2021 Ohio State recruiting class has continued to load up even though coaches haven’t been able to have face to face contact with players. That’s in large part due to Kerry Coombs coming back to the football program.

He isn’t solely responsible for all of the recruits who committed to play for the Buckeyes recently but he has certainly been a big part of the surge. Yesterday another four-star defensive back decided he wanted to wear Scarlet and Gray.

Denzel Burke is from Scottsdale, Arizona and ranked as the 7th ranked athlete in the 2021 class and the No. 183 player. Per 247Sports he is a talented player on both sides of the ball but wants to play corner at Ohio State.

Who wouldn’t, it can be a short trip to the NFL. Especially when Kerry Coombs has coached you for at least one season.

Let’s take a look at Ohio State players he has coached who have earned a paycheck in the NFL or soon will.

  • 2014 Bradley Roby:  First round
  • 2015 Doran Grant:  Fourth round
  • 2016 Eli Apple:  First round
  • 2017 Marshon Lattimore and Gareon Conly:  Both first-round picks.
  • 2018 Denzel Ward:  First round
  • 2020 Jeff Okudah and Damon Arnette:  Both first-round picks.

With the way coach Coombs sends players to the NFL it’s not surprising these guys committed to the 2021 Ohio State recruiting class after he came back as DB coach / DC. All are expected to play in the secondary or at the “Bullet” position.

  • Jakallin Johnson: No. 4 corner
  • Andre Turrentine, No. 4 safety
  • Denzel Burke, No. 7 corner
  • Jantzen Dunn, No. 11 safety
  • Devonta Smith, No. 20 corner

Next. Justin Fields is the 2020 Heisman favorite. dark

The defensive backfield appears to be loaded now. More on this outstanding recruiting class coming soon.
