Travel restrictions aren’t stopping Ryan Day from reloading the Ohio State football team. He is landing jewels from Ohio to ‘Down Under’.

During the so-called down time in recruiting with the virus situation and the travel restrictions in place, Ryan Day has still had recruits from all over the country committing to play Ohio State football. On May 6th, he got a commit from ‘Down Under’ who wants to wear Scarlet and Gray too.

If he is as good as the one Urban Meyer found in Australia he will be one of the jewels in the 2021 recruiting class. Like Cameron Johnston, Jesse Mirco was an Australian rules football player who will punt for Ohio State.

Johnston had a terrific career punting for the Buckeyes and was a key member of the 2014 National Championship team.

As a freshman, Johnston averaged 44 yards per punt but upped that to 45.1 during the championship season. During his Ohio State football career he averaged 44.9 yards per punt.

During his two seasons in the NFL Johnston has averaged 47.2 yards per punt. Don’t you think coach Day would love to have Mirco to put those kinds of numbers up?

And he will be expected to perform at a high level because of the guy he will be taking over for.

Drue Christman is 5th on the all time list of Ohio State punters with a 43.7 yard average and he is entering his senior season. Christman is also known as being able to pin the opposing offense with its back to the endzone.

dark. Next. Buckeyes will have huge advantage in 2020

Jesse Mirco doesn’t even have a player ranking so he didn’t move the No. 1 ranked Ohio State 2021 recruiting class up at all. However, if he can perform at the level the first Aussie punter did, or the guy he will replace, Ryan Day will have found a jewel ‘Down Under’.
