The Ohio State football team lost one of its receivers to the transfer portal last month in Jaelen Gill. He looks to rebound strong.

Former Ohio State Buckeye receiver Jaelen Gill entered the transfer portal a few weeks ago, looking for a chance for playing time elsewhere. It has been clear for a while now Ohio State’s H-back position has turned more into a slot receiver position under head coach Ryan Day and that Gill just did not fit in this offense.

Gill was brought to Ohio State with much anticipation. The Westerville native was a hometown Buckeye, and more importantly was the No. 30 overall recruit in the 2018 class according to 247Sports. He was a massive talent at the time of his recruitment.

But over the course of the last two seasons, Gill just never could find his niche within the offense. Maybe he was a better fit under Urban Meyer’s scheme, but under Ryan Day’s pro-style attack he never meshed.

Gill finished his Buckeye career with only seven total receptions for 62 yards and one touchdown.

He is still a very gifted athlete, but to be honest without seeing him on the field much we just don’t know if he can play at the highest of levels.

Without many rumors as to where Gill may next suit up next, I’ve got the perfect landing spot for him: Rutgers.

Gill should be familiar with newly appointed head coach Greg Schiano from his time as an Ohio State assistant coach during Gill’s freshman season. Rutgers is also in need of a massive talent infusion on the offensive side of the ball.

The Scarlet Knights desperately lack playmakers and Gill could have a chance to see the field right away.

Look, sometimes it just doesn’t work out. These kids are 18, 19 and 20 years old. So often in life a change of scenery is just needed, and for Gill an opportunity without a log jam of top end receiver recruits is needed. Here’s to the best for Jaelen Gill, wherever he lands.
