Ohio State Football: Kerry Coombs keeps running, lands another DB
Since returning to the Ohio State football team Kerry Coombs has been lighting things up on the recruiting trail and today he landed another outstanding DB.
During his first stint as an assistant coach at Ohio State Kerry Coombs was known as one of the top recruiters in the country. Anybody who thought he may be a little rusty when it comes to recruiting after his two year stint in the NFL was sadly mistaken.
Last month cornerbacks Jakallin Johnson and Devonta Smith committed to play for the Buckeyes as did safety Andre Turrintine. Today Jantzen Dunn took to Twitter to announce he will be wearing Scarlet and Gray.

Dunn is listed at 6 ft. 2, 178 pounds and is ranked as the 15th best athlete and the No. 248 overall player in the country. According to an article by Steve Witfong of 247Sports Dunn plays on both sides of the ball but it looks as though he is projected as a DB in college.
Here is an analysis of the newest commit as reported in Mr. Witfong’s article.
"“I think he is one of the more athletic safeties we’ve seen this class going through the Top247,” 247Sports National Analyst Charles Power said. “When I say safety I should clarify that. I think he could play corner at the next level with his length and athleticism on the edge. It kind of depends on the scheme and type of coverage but he’s versatile enough to play multiple positions in the secondary."
There is plenty more good info on Dunn in the article and I suggest you check it out.
Along with Smith’s high school teammate safety Jaylen Johnson, who committed in January, it gives coach Coombs five defensive backs in the 2021 class. Now that he is co-defensive coordinator he may turn his attention to the front seven. That has to be a scary thought for opposing coaches.
It’s been an amazing run lately for Ryan Day and his assistants during the supposed down time on the recruiting trail. Even though they can’t have face to face contact with recruits at the moment, the 2021 class keeps filling up and now 17 players are committed.
That’s three more than North Carolina’s No. 2 ranked class which Ohio State leads in points 294.67 to 230.89 in the 247Sports Composite. It certainly looks like coach Day’s 2021 class is going to be a special one.
