Ohio State Football: 2020 NFL Draft sleeper nobody is talking about
The Ohio State football program continues to pump out NFL talent year after year. Here is one player who is not getting enough love.
Head coach Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes look to continue a tradition of sending out elite NFL talent in this years NFL Draft. With Chase Young and Jeff Okudah set to become top five NFL Draft picks, Ohio State’s reputation will continue to be impeccable.
There could be as many as 14 players Buckeyes drafted this year but there is one player in particular who is getting overlooked. That player is Davon Hamilton. The defensive tackle had a stellar Senior Bowl and NFL Combine with NFL talent evaluators taking notice.
However, Hamilton does not seem to be getting the same amount of attention in the media. For example, Matt Miller of Bleacher Report put out his latest version his NFL Mock Draft and has Hamilton being selected in the fifth round at No. 156 overall to the San Francisco 49ers.
If that becomes a reality, 49ers fans should be doing back flips. Hamilton was the glue that held this defensive line in tact last season. He along with fellow defensive tackles B.B. Landers and Jashon Cornell formed a formidable trio of stalwarts in the middle of the defense which held opponents to only 260 total yards of offense per game.
Furthermore, Hamilton had a stellar season for himself. The DT had 28 tackles, including nine in a half tackles for loss and six sacks. Being able to rush the passer from the three-technique is a must for defensive tackles in the NFL and Hamilton showed last season he is up to the challenge.
Jim Nagy of the Senior Bowl took notice of how many NFL scouts were buzzing about Hamilton’s play last fall, via his twitter account:
"One interesting prospect that we didn’t post last weekend is @OhioStateFB DT Davon Hamilton (@dmhamilton53). Few players in the Midwest have helped themselves more this fall than Hamilton, who has created plenty of buzz on the road with NFL scouts."
Look for Davon Hamilton to be selected in the top 100 in the NFL Draft later this month. Also, look out for him to become an excellent player at the next level.
