A former QB on the Ohio State football team shares insights on a championship season, life after wearing Scarlet and Gray and the current team.

Justin Zwick has been a born and bred Buckeye his entire life. A standout at Massillon High School in 2001, Zwick was a consensus All-Ohio selection, the Associated Press Co-Offensive Player of the Year and the No. 3 ranked QB in the country.

After his commitment to the Buckeyes to play for Coach Tressel, Zwick went on to complete 158 of 276 pass attempts with 1,779 passing yards and 7 touchdowns in his career. A dominating performance in the 2004 Alamo Bowl, Zwick led the Buckeyes to a 33-7 win over Oklahoma State.

Where has life taken #12 after his career with the Buckeyes? Check out my conversation with Justin about his Buckeye career, NFL experience and his expectations for the 2020 Buckeyes.

Scarlet & Game: What was your most memorable moment while playing at Ohio State?

Justin Zwick: “The most memorable moment has to be the 2002 National Championship.  Even though I was redshirted that year, it was an amazing season/team to be a part of and showed us young guys what it took to be a championship level team.”

Scarlet & Game: What contributed to the success of your 2002 National Championship team?

Justin: “The 2002 team had strong leaders. Mike Doss coming back for his senior year, the junior class that year was amazing and then you throw in a talent like Maurice Clarett and boom…wins start happening and the team starts believing that they can win any game. Was a special year and fun to be a part of!”

Scarlet & Game: What was Coach Tressel like?

Justin: “Coach Tress was just like everyone imagined. He was not one to put a show on for the cameras then act different around the team. We knew what he and his assistant coaches expected out of us and gave it our all to come through.”
