Ohio State Football: Recruiting dead period extended, should help OSU
The Ohio State football team’s coaches are still waiting to hit the recruiting trail as the recruiting dead period has been extended by the NCAA.
The NCAA has extended the recruiting dead period through May 31st due to COVID-19 concerns. With Ohio State in the midst of an all-time great recruiting class, this news should help the Buckeyes as they continue to dominate during this period.
Head coach Ryan Day and his assistants continue to figure out ways to adapt and thrive in this unforeseen circumstance in which the country is in. Being able to secure the verbal commitments of top prospects such as Evan Pryor, TreVeyon Henderson, Jakailin Johnson, Andre Turrentine and Devonta Smith, the Buckeyes are one of the few schools to actually flourish in this environment.
Ohio State continues to push for new and advanced ways to recruit during this time. Lettermen Row confirmed that the Buckeyes are actually using virtual visits for recruits. And it seems to be working out well according to Pat Coogan, a three-star offensive tackle prospect in the 2021 recruiting class, via Lettermen Row:
"“I learned a whole bunch about things outside of football [at Ohio State] that are very important,” Coogan told Lettermen Row. “It was a Zoom call. It was awesome. A really cool experience put together by Coach Day and the staff.”"
Coogan has been a hot recruit as of late and seems to be trending up the recruiting boards as he was offered a scholarship on Monday by Ohio State. He also holds offers from Notre Dame, Duke and Stanford.
As coach Day and company continues to adapt and this recruiting dead period rolls along, the Buckeyes seem to be in prime position to pounce and grab a few more recruits during this time frame.
And with 15 hard commitments already in this 2021 recruiting cycle, the Buckeyes only need a few more recruits to fill out and complete this stellar class.
